Articles
Over the years, articles were published on the various projects, providing the historical background to the creation of the original records and giving examples of the treasure trove of information contained in them. In particular, records were selected for indexing which give a ship of arrival, or other personal information which helps researchers fill in the details of their ancestors' lives, information which may be available from no other source.
For example, if a person fell on hard times, they may have been obliged to apply to the government for assistance and in that process, were required to provide personal details including how long they had been in the Colony.
These articles are commended to family historians - often inspiration for further research is suggested by the type of information found in the records.
In particular, it should be noted that the scope of information in the Railway Passes Index covers a person's activities well prior to the date of the indexes.
